On April 20th in 1955, Las Vegas became the home to a new style of resort. Where-as previous establishments in the city looked more like traditional motels, this hotel ushered in the concept of the high rise, initializing the kick-off for the buildings Vegas is known for today. Nearly 60 years later, the Riviera is still providing the best of what Sin City has to offer at a fraction of what the newer properties cost. If there’s one thing that the Riviera has done gracefully, it is age. Unlike some off-the-Strip locations that have been around the block a few times, the Riviera still has the glam and style that fits appropriately within the rest of the city. One area where this hotel certainly doesn’t falter is its accommodations. Though the hotel may be on the higher end of old, the rooms have been renovated over time to offer the same comfort and style that tourists of today are looking for. The Classic Room of the Riviera looks all but what would be expected from a room described as “Classic”. Light wood furnishings line the perimeter of the room, offering a comfortable place to sit and have a nice hot cup of room service coffee or that little office set-up for the employee on the go. These 430 sq-ft rooms come with pillow top mattresses that make getting out of bed in the morning all the more difficult. Pet lovers will be pleased at the Pet Friendly Classic Rooms, which are separate from regular Classic Rooms for the allergenic traveler. For those looking for a little more space, the Riviera also offers an assortment of Deluxe Rooms. Darker wood accents bring out a sense of luxury and style with the upgraded Luxury Room. A more contemporary style flows throughout without sacrificing an ounce of comfort. “Euro” pillow top mattresses invite guests the moment they walk through the door. Longer term guests will be pleases to find the inclusion of a refrigerator, making it possible to finally save those leftovers from any of the hotel’s five-star restaurants. Following in the contemporary look of the Luxury Room is the Studio Suite. Arranged in the same manner as a studio apartment, these suites offer a separating sitting area for optimal comfort and space. The dark wood accents of the Luxury Room can be found throughout this suite while the bathroom is upgraded with a marble vanity and shower / tub. Extending on the concept of this luxury suite is the One-Bedroom Deluxe Suite, which tacks on a separate powder room for convenience. Rounding off the best experience on could have at the Riviera is the Penthouse, a 1,000 sq-ft haven located at the top of the hotel.  An oversized sitting area welcomes more guests while a jetted whirlpool tub guarantees a relaxing night. Once guests get the willpower to pry themselves away from these lavished rooms, they’ll be pleased to find that the five-star amenities continue to flow throughout the hotel. Dining options come in the form of the R Steak and Seafood, the Queen Victoria Pub, the Banana Leaf Asian Restaurant, and the Poolside Café. No matter, no appetite will go unfulfilled. After a heft meal, guests can partake in one of the Riviera’s numerous stage shows, which include the likes of classic comedic legend Andrew Dice Clay. The Comedy Club ensures the laughs go well into the wee hours of the morning while ILLUSIONS starring Jan Rouven will keep the crowd mystified. Despite its age, the Riviera continues to have the potential to stand up against the current heavy hitters of Sin City. If its comfort, style, and class that’s desired, Riviera can provide it at a much lower cost.
